At the beginning of September I photographed a wedding in a very unusual location of Byrkjedal, which is in the mountains approximately 1 hour from Stavanger. Byrkjedal is a candle factory which is a visit attraction however it has since added Gloppehallen which is a cave inside the rocky mountain. The venue is filled with candle lights and coloured abiance lighting.
Outside is a number of traditional wooden built cottages and houses offering a very unique accommodation to the wedding guests.
Prior to the day the bride and groom had expressed their interest in having photos taken at Gloppedalsura, which is a rockslide near the venue. With its impressive views I was really looking forward to capturing their photos at this location.
I convinced my friend and fellow photographer Nicola from Nicasa photography to come and support me at this wedding. With the unusual setting it was a comfort to have your friend and talented photographer by your side. Prior to the wedding we kept checking the weather forecast which was set to be around 18 degrees celsius and overcast. However a couple of days prior to the wedding the forecast changed to 70% chance of heavy rain. On the day of the wedding we made provision and planned what we could manage with rain.
However, luck was on our side and as we came outside after the ceremony the rain had stopped. We did the main images on location prior to driving to Gloppedalsura for pictures of the bridal party. As we got into the car to return to the venue, the rain came back on. I could not believe our luck.
We took some more images at location using sheltered areas and also in their unique room before finishing off with a few images during the speeches.
It was truly a magical day.
