My Love, My Life 2/12 – Winter Glory | Stavanger Photographer

It is a dark winter night, from my living room I can spot the street lights set against the jet black sky, my husband has lit the wood burning stove and I can hear the sound as the fire is working its way through the wood. In front of me I am looking at this nearly empty computer screen trying to think of the perfect words to add to this blog whilst zipping my freshly brewed cup of tea. In fact, I love my cups of tea, when I sit down with my cup of tea I feel my world pause for a moment and my shoulders relax.

Regardless of how dark the winter nights are, there are something magical about winter, the jet black sky, the twinkling stars lighting up the sky and the comfort of sitting cozied up feeling the heat from the fire. Then there is the white stuff, the perfect white snowflakes that fall from the sky and covers the ground like a blanket. There is something so pure about the white covered landscape, it is so clean and crisp. Even though it is cold outside, we wrap up warm and go outside and we play in the snow for hours at a time. When it is time to come inside we feel tired in a way that only the crisp winter weather can make you feel, yet you feel so refreshed and when it is time for bed, you sleep like a baby.

As long as I can remember we spent weekends and winter breaks in the mountains and as I reached my teens my parents built their own lodge cabin. Going up to the cabin has been something I have always enjoyed and whilst living away I missed having the opportunity to say, lets escape for the weekend. I loved waking up in the morning and looking outside to what seemed like an untouched landscape. On days with fresh falling snow you felt as though you were in the middle of nowhere and I would sit inside enjoying my breakfast and watching the first person ski across the untouched  landscape and leave a trace behind.

Over the years I have frequently travelled to Norway to celebrate easter and take the girls skiing and I am delighted that the kids share my love for the winter. The snow usually arrive end of December/ Beginning of January and we have already started our winter weekends. We arrived on a Friday night,  and after a lot of snowfall and high winds the main road was closed which meant we had to drive the long way round. When we arrived and the ground was covered with over a metre of fresh powder snow. Over the weekend we had high winds and snow but still the kids wrapped up warm and they loved spending time outside. In between their outdoor play, they come inside for food and snack and then we play games. It seems that when we remove ourselves from our busy every day life we take more time out to just spend time with our kids. Which is one of the reasons these trips away are so precious. The weekends always end too soon and before I knew it was time to drive back home. Until next time…

Thank you for reading another entry of My love, My life but don’t forget to follow the circle and head over to my dear friend Donna and read her blog about daughter Daisy, and it also happened to be her birthday this week so don’t forget to wish Donna a happy belated birthday

My Love, My life 1/12 Stavanger Photographer

I am introducing My Love, My Life – a photography project for 2014. Since becoming a photographer and photographing clients, less time and effort has gone into photographing my own children. So in 2014 I am joined by a group of photographers, who are all celebrating their love for photography, their love for their family and sharing a piece of their life.

Like most people, finding the work – life balance can be a challenge. It is important to take time out to stop and smell the roses, it is important to take time away from the daily routine, break free and spend some quality time with yourself, your family and loved ones.

I am sure I can count several fingers for the times I have wanted to take the girls out for a Sunday walk, just to get away from the house, get some fresh air and enjoy the outdoor. Usually due to a busy life our weekends are precious and we just enjoy relaxing at home, yet I still feel something is lacking and that breaking out of bad/old habits can only be a good thing. One crisp and cold yet sunny Sunday in January I told my girls… get dressed we are going for a walk along the beach. Both girls were reluctant and sat in the car moaning…. do we have too. The first 5 minutes along the beach the girls kept moaning… this is boring and then they started to enjoy it. They were chasing or rather being chased by the waves, they looked at some boys who ran into the water for a cold bath with amazement. Leaving the shores we headed into the Sand Dunes and the girls ran up and down the dunes trying to locate the highest dune to jump from. In the background we could spot some surfers braving the waves in the cold and the ever amazing colours on the sky caused by the sun setting.

It was a quick trip lasting less then an hour, but I created memories with my children, I watched how their boredom turned into enjoyment and the expression on their little faces and the pure enjoyment was priceless. I took time out to smell the roses and they smelt amazing.

To view more blog posts from My Love, My life head over to Nimz Inegbedion to read her letter to her adorable son.

Love
Evy

Amalie 2013 – Our elf on the Shelf

Have you ever heard of Elf on the Shelf, Amalie is our Elf on the Shelf and she arrives on the 1st December to spend 24 days with us prior to Christmas.

We flew to San Fransisco on the 30th November to visit my brother and this year we did wonder if she would find us in San Fransisco or arrive at an empty house in Norway.

Every day she will watch over us and fly back to the North Pole and report to Santa on each days events and behaviour. Every morning we wake up and wonder where we can find her and wonder if she has gotten up to any mischief. This year Amalie was on her best behaviour and didn’t really get up to much mischief at all.

Week 42 Little Ballerina | By Evy Photography – Stavanger fotograf

This little girl has started dancing classes and after a long wait her outfit finally arrived. She is so happy when she skips off to ballet with her little ballet bag in her hand. After spending 4 years watching big sister at gymnastics, she finally have her own activities which she loves.

I arrived early this day and asked the dance teacher if I could pop into their dance hall and take a couple of photos. She is too little to hold on to the rail and look like a proper ballerina but staying true to her personality she just did her free spirited approach to some dance photos.
