14/52 | Black and White

I have not shared a lot of my 52 week projects and the theme for week 14 was black and white. So last minute I photographed my girls after their night time bath.

Trip to the farm | Sense of Wonder Workshop, Tampa

During day one of our workshop we started with an introduction and a talk by Brooke. Once this was complete we were offered the opportunity to go out and do a shoot around the hotel or stay and get some camera knowledge from Pete and Steve. There was another shoot scheduled so I stayed with Pete and Steve and increased my knowledge further.

Later we all jumped in a number of cars and drove to Old McMicky’s Farm, the girls looked absolutely amazing, the styling was a perfect fit to the location which really helped them stand out. It was challenging but fun photographing with both animals and children. The shoot was directed by Brooke Logue with the exception of the images in the dark barn which I was allowed to direct on my own.

Urban girls | Sense of Wonder, Tampa

On day two of the Brooke Logue, Sense of Wonder Workshop, Tonya Poitevint  styled the children for a fun urban photoshoot. She had styled the girls in colourful shorts from Justice, knee high socks and white vests with the added headwear. On their feet they were wearing their own Converse trainers with schwings for an added fun element.

First we watched Tonya work and then we all got to join in for some group shots prior to splitting the girls in two groups where we got to interact, direct and just try to to be inspired and practise what we had just observed.

Location | KelbyOne Studio, Florida

I hope you enjoy the images captured. Links to additional blogs from the workshop below:

Kelby One Studio Fun | Sense of Wonder, Tampa

The one and only Pete Collins, Photoshop guy at KelbyOne, got permission from Scott Kelby to allow us access to tour the studio and when heaven opened we were so lucky to spend time in the KelbyOne studio. Now who is Scott Kelby and Kelby One? I think a lot of photographers own at least one of his photography books (click here for a link to his book store), well I do own a few and I was actively reading them when I first purchased my first SLR camera and Photoshop Elements software.

In the studio Pete Collins and Steve Gustafson set up lighting and was teaching lighting techniques whilst Brooke had the girls ready, styled in adorable outfits. At first Brooke was photographing with the rest of us observing how she works and interact with the children, then paired up with a partner we were given some time to direct and photograph girls individual. It was a great opportunity, I loved the expertise the guys had to share and I loved watching Brooke put in action the techniques she had talked about prior to the shoot.

As a mother of two girls myself, it was inevitable to stay away from The MerryLovejoy Company and it is worth popping by her online show. During this shoot the children are wearing items from Brands such as Wovenplay, Atsuyo Et Akiko, Misha Lulu, Tutu du Monde etc.

Sense of Wonder Workshop Tampa

Due to my love for both kids clothing and photography it was inevitable that I one day came across Brooke Logue Photography. I first came across Brooke Logue in 2012 while looking for a photographer in Orlando and since that day I have continued to following her work. When I noticed that she was offering workshop I dreamt that I one day would be able to attend one. Her photography spoke to me, there was just something magical about her ability to capture children. In 2014 I attended an editing workshop online with Brooke and it really helped refine my editing and there was just something about her personality that made me warm to her and although it was only online I felt I got a peak into the person and not only the photographer. When she announced her Miami workshop in 2014 I was so tempted to attend but it was just too close to my holiday and standing commitments and I realised timing was not ideal so when she announced the Tampa workshop I was delighted and booked my flights to Tampa.

Prior to the workshop it was only Brooke I had a relationship to in relation to photography but once I got there and met Steve Gustafson, Steve Collins and Tonya Poitvint I realised I had hit the jackpot. The skills in that group of mentors is just beyond my comprehension and weeks after the workshop I still feel overwhelmed and lucky to have been part of it. It has by far been the best workshop I have ever attended. They covered so many elements of photography and their level of knowledge was just amazing. I expected to go and learn about styling, posing and location scoping, reality is that the skills go deeper and they challenges the way you think about every image prior to capturing it. On this workshop we also had the additional bonus of being invited into Kelby one and during one of the days when the weather turned against us we had the pleasure to photograph in a studio environment and learn more in-depth details on lighting.  I have left Tampa buzzing with new ideas and inspiration, I feel revitalised both on a professional and personal level. The thing is, this workshop was not just about photography which I anticipated, it was so much more because you felt that you became part of a Sense of Wonder family. I feel richer, I have met a lot of new people that I now can call friends. One way to put it in perspective is to let you all know that 80% of attendees had already been on this workshop and has returned because every time they come back they learn something new.

Sadly prior to the workshop Brooke did mention that this might be her last workshop, which I think is such a shame. I have looked at a lot of workshops around and I feel this is one of the best workshops on the market. I would also argue that it is the one workshop that offers the most value for money. Would I recommend the workshop to others – ABSOLUTELY, and if you asked me if I would attend again… then I would say MOST DEFINITELY.

I really feel I mad friends in Tampa, I miss everyone and wish I lived closer so that I would be able to catch up with them and play. Thank you everyone for enriching my life, it was a true delight being able to be part of such a wonderful group of people.

I have so many images to share from my workshop and full set of images is blogged in three separate blog posts.
