After photography, one of my other passions is baking. I do enjoy to bake cakes and when it comes to birthday parties I always try to make my girls a little special and unusual cake that they would love. On this occasion the pink barbie cake got the girls all excited and they just could not wait to taste it. For every 5th silver pearl their daddy got a call to come and see the cake.

Once the kids was in bed I started to make my little chocolate surprise. It is quite simply a chocolate cake with a sweet center. The two middle layers have a little hole cut out which was filled with smarties and chocolate coins.

When the cakes were placed on the table our little party girls all wanted the barbie cake, but as soon as the first couple of slices of the chocolate cake had been cut revealing the surprise in the middle they all changed their mind. It turned out to be a huge success and definitely something I will be making again in the future.

As one of my daughters has Coeliac, all my cakes and gluten-free.
